Weather in Gran Canaria in October
October is one of the friendliest periods in Gran Canaria. It marks the end of a heating summer, the temperatures start dropping but still it is hot enough to enjoy beaches and the sea. During this period, the sky is filled with little clouds, making it perfect for taking pictures. The weather is as perfect as it gets: temperatures vary starting from 20ºC to 26ºC.
October allows enjoying the daily sunshine for at least 8 hours a day, so visiting beaches is a great way to soak up the sun. What is more, if you love swimming, October is perfect for you. On average, the water temperature is 23ºC. Also, October is the best time for snorkeling. The waters are calm and clear.
Still, if you are planning to spend your vacation during October in Gran Canaria, you have to note that the weather in the south and in the north differs much.
In the south, where most resorts are situated, the day usually starts as sunny and clear. During the daytime, some clouds appear, coming from the heated center of the island. As the temperature rises, these clouds become bigger and bigger. Still, they disappear right after the sun fades away. Sometimes, an afternoon shower happens.
When it comes to Gran Canaria’s highlands, the day starts sunny and then gets clouded.
In the north of the island the day, in contrast to the south, starts from clouds that came from the Atlantic Ocean. During the day they disappear, allowing you to enjoy the sunny afternoon weather.
If there are any wet periods, they tend to be intermittent with the sunshine in between the showers.
October in Gran Canaria also marks the beginning of walking season. Note that it can be quite cool and wet in the hills, so do not forget to take some layers and waterproofs with you.
Still, if you are more stick up to beaches, shorts and t-shirts will become your favorite clothes. Though there are some rainy days, it is not necessary to bring an umbrella. Showers are short-termed.
Though October period is not so hot as August, it is always better to use some sunscreen, especially if your skin is pale and you plan a tour to mountains.
